Heated Dog House Tips
If you live in a cold climate or where you have cold winter temperatures you will definitely want to provide a heated dog house for your beloved canine.
It is recommended that dog owners keep their dogs inside the home during extremely cold temperatures. However if your dog is an outside dog, you really can create a comfortable home for your dog with a heated dog house.
There are some very important considerations you must remember when using a heated dog house for your pet.
1- You need to elevate your dog house floor so it is not in direct contact with the cold ground. The heated dog house floor should sit several inches above the ground so that air can circulate underneath it. Some people use wooden pallets to achieve the elevation required.
2- You need to be sure that your heated dog house does not have a flat roof. You want a slanted roof so that rain and / or snow will not collect on the roof.
3- Do not face your heated dog house door directly into where the wind comes from. Make sure the door of the dog house is facing a protected area rather than a wind tunnel.
4- During the winter you want to place the dog house where it will receive as much sunshine as possible. In the summer you would do the opposite and place the dog house in a shaded area.
5- Your heated dog house should be large enough for your dog to comfortable turn around in and also to stretch out. You don’t want the dog house to be too large though because you want the dog’s body heat to also help keep the dog house warm.
6- It is really helpful if the roof of your dog house has a hinge. This gives you easy access for cleaning the dog house on a regular basis.
7- Your heated dog house should have good insulation to help the dog house maintain a steady temperature for the good health of your dog.
